This collection consists of 2 framed black and white portrait photographs of John H. McGraw, former Governor of Washington State. The photographs are the same portrait with different size photos and different frames. One photograph is 8.5 in. (22 cm.) x 7.5 in. (19 cm.) that appears to be matted and is in a wooden black frame. The framed photograph is about 17.5 in. (45 cm.) x 16.5 in. (42 cm.). The photograph is embossed on the corner "Rogers, Olympia, Wash." This appears to be the name of the Studio that took the photograph. The larger photograph is 9.5 in. (24.5 cm.) x 7.5 in. (19 cm.) that is matted and also in a wooden frame.

Maud P. Mitchell was born about 1883 in Oregon. She married Chas. R. Mitchell and by 1920 they were living in Chehalis, WA. Charles was an assistant cashier at the bank. John McGraw was born in Penobscot County, Me., in 1850. After only the most elementary education he became the manager of a general store at the age of 17 and was a partner at 21. However, the store failed during the 1873 depression, and McGraw left for the Far West in 1876. After first going to San Francisco, he arrived in Seattle in Dec. 1876, penniless.
